It's impossible for communicators to be strictly objective on all stories as subjectivity is an undeniable human trait. We all have experienced and biases that make us who we are. However,it's important for communicators working in the field of journalism to try their utmost to reflect fair and divergent opinions in stories,to examine issues from diverse views.and to excise their own biases.
Never, ever publish or broadcast information as it's written in a news release. If you determine that the information is newsworthy and accurate, write it in your own words in a clear, conversational and concise way.
Always consider the sources;be sure to independently verify all claims that you intend to report from a news release.Keep in mind the releases may present only one side of a controversial issue.
Any time you use videotape that is not shot by someone in your own company, you must identify the source for the viewers. This can be done in your script.
Most broadcast news operations subscribe to services such as THE ASSOCIATED PRESS AND REUTERS in which it's accepted and understood that the writing provided can be used in its given form without credit. This is not plagiarism as the services are being used for their designed and intended use,and broadcast online subscribers pay for that service.
